The Home Garden

Once again, I’m trying my hand at a little home garden.  I’ve just barely gotten started, but I’m feeling good about it so far.  I’m starting off in pots: As I decide just how many plants I’m going to have I may transfer to a ground bed, but if I don’t get any or many more plants we may stick with the pots.

Yesterday we got Lana suited up and headed to Lowe’s to check out some plants.

Little explorer, ready for action!

We wound up spending more time at Lowe’s than intended, but Lana was so very good!  She even fell asleep on my mom for a while, haha.  (Want a nap? Go to Lowe’s!)

I was happy with the plant selection.  I got a couple cherry tomato plants, the same kind I had good luck with in a pot last year, and two different types of bigger tomato plants.  I also got two zucchini and two cucumber.

Of course I didn’t think to buy dirt, so I got to head off to the woodline with a shovel to get some soil.  Once I had that, however, I think my little plants looked pretty good in their new homes:

We’ll see how these guys do as potted plants.  It may give them a better chance of surviving the deer and the rabbits!

If you’re in need of any hot peppers we always have a glut of ‘em!

I tried some cucumbers in hanging planters and they was doing really good but I had to move them twice because of a couple of night freezes. Even though I moved them to a warm location they didn’t seem to like being moved around. I’ve started some new plants from seed in the garden and they were popping up after just 2 days. I’m going to try training them up a fence.

BTW – Lana is absolutely adorable!

Thanks for stopping by and giving me your input on my moms picture. I ordered the color one. :-)

I may take you up on that Ivy! I need to figure out what to use them in first, hehe.

That picture is wonderful, Rebecca, I’m sure your dad is going to love it. And thanks for the gardening advice: I’ll either get some cages for them to crawl or transplant them to a ground bed very soon, so as not to disturb them too much later.

I too have planted some ‘maters. I got some Mr. Stripeys, some regular plain old reds and a yellow kind. I also planted some peas, but they don’t seem to be taking so well, outta the 18 seedlings I have 4. I’m pretty excited for tasty fresh tomatoes though. The ones in the grocery are typically a sad sad simulation of what a ripe tomato should taste like.

I love fresh maters, Keira. We used to have a dog who would steal them from the garden, hehe.

I’m still trying to decide what I’m going to put in the AeroGarden. Some herbs and romaine, maybe! What do you have in yours this year?

Oh my gosh, I forgot about my aerogarden! It’s in my sewing room and everything in there keeps getting shuffled around when we have guests.

We had a dog when I was growing up that would eat cucumbers off of the vine….although that same dog would eat all the dandelions in the yard.Weirdest dog ever.
