Redheads: Rose Red

rosered

Rose Red is a character in the DC Vertigo series Fables written by Bill Willingham. She is the sister of Snow-White.  Her character is loosely based on the fairy tale “Snow-White and Rose-Red”, though in the Fables series the Snow-White from that fairy tale is the same Snow-White from the more commonly known story, and Rose Red has grown up quite a bit differently.

Rose Red is rambunctious, a party girl, and embarrassing to the more demure and professional Snow-White. It seems she has always had to live in her sister’s better-known shadow.  Though Rose matures in the series, she always seems to retain a bit of that wild-child.

(Amusingly, when I was younger and reading all the fairy tales, I always imagined that Rose Red had her own story somewhere, just like Snow White did, if only I knew where to find it…)

Actually, I remember thinking the exact same thing about Rose Red. It just wasn’t fair!:)

Also, speaking of reading, I’m halfway through the ‘Southern Vampire’ series. The ones that the HBO show True Blood is very loosly based on. They’re very much like the Anita Blake books. Only with less porn. A lot less. Good though, for brain candy. I think you’d dig ‘em.

    Clever words?

If it’s clever words and less porn, I’ll have to check it out, heh.

I second the Sookie Stackhouse series, although Sookie was getting annoying for a couple of books, things seem to be straightening out and she’s no longer the most attractive human being on the planet.

On of the things I love about the early books is Sookie’s worries about money. And getting hurt and paying hospital bills. I like that bit of realism added in.
