Lana is standing on her own. She goes out to the middle of the floor, usually with a couple of her stacking rings in her hands, and gets in position. With her hands (holding rings) on the ground in front of her, she positions her feet under her, and then pushes herself up upright, unfolding until she’s standing straight up, like a mix between the right and the wrong way to lift a heavy box. (Sometimes she straightens her legs first, then raises her upper body.) She holds her arms (usually holding those rings) out for balance, and stands there for 10 – 15 seconds with a big grin, then either bends her legs to sit or plops dramatically backwards onto her butt looking very pleased with herself.
She’s done little things similar to this before, but now she’s doing it often. She’s practicing it, folks.

Even though it’s temporarily out of stock (hmm, I can’t imagine why there was a sudden demand!) I have to point out that I recently found there is a book called Guide to Pirate Parenting: Why You Should Raise Your Kids As Pirates, and 101 Tips on How to Do It. I think it will be just the thing for future Talk Like a Pirate Days! I haven’t gotten it yet, though I need to get it for Sean for Christmas. So shhh! me hearties, don’t tell, or I’ll have to find meself a plank for you to walk!
Mmmm, now I just need to go figure out what will pass for grog for me on this fine fine day. Arrr!

I’ll post more of an entry soon. Lana’s 9 months now (oh my!) and has 7 teeth, and has been working on eating more and more solid foods. Today we shared some pancakes and some mashed potatoes, which for her I mixed into some baby chicken and stars (a chunky version which actually had the pasta stars and whole peas for her to eat!).
It seems I have a new job. I’ll start in about two weeks. Basically I’m doing the same work I’ve done in the past, but for a new boss (in this case WVU). I won’t be able to work from home anymore, so it means I’ll be missing the day with Lana. Sean will have her, but it will still be odd not to share in all the little things she does during the day.
So I’m sure I’ll have more to say about all that, but for now I’ve been running around getting things in order for me to leave my old job and start a new one.
