Privacy
I really like privacy. This site does not knowingly collect any unusual data about you.
There are statistical logs of who visits my website. The web is not as anonymous as it seems; just like any website owner I can probably tell a little bit about who or where you are by looking at the data your browser provides to me via my blog stats or other logs. If you enter a name and email address to make a comment, it’s stored by the database in WordPress, along with some other information such as your IP address. I may be able to use this to block you from commenting if you’re usually mean to me. Aside from that, and amusement at how many visitors I get from odd search terms or from unexpected locations, it will be of little use to me. However, should I need that information to prove to my mother I actually do get visitors to my site other than myself, or should I need it to help make myself more attractive to advertisers, I will use it.
If you have cookies enabled, some of the information on your preferences may get stored in those cookies. There are third party advertisements on this site, and the advertisers may also use cookies and web beacons to track users. You can control some of this through your browser settings, though your security settings will affect how you interact with the sites on the web (it’s nice to have your name already filled in when you go to comment, for example – files called cookies allow that by storing the information on your computer; if you don’t allow the cookie you don’t get that convenience).
Also, I participate in some affiliate programs, like the Amazon Associates program. This lets me link to products and get a small head pat percentage if someone uses my link to go buy it. It’s not enough money to make me say I like something I don’t – mostly it’s just an encouragement for me to talk about the neat stuff I find.
If you find a privacy concern with the site please let me know.
