It’s been a while coming, which hopefully means they did their testing and it’s going to be good, but gDiapers is now offering their own cloth inserts for the gDiaper covers. I’ve been starting to try cloth again now that Lana is bigger (and it’s worked out pretty well the few times I’ve done it) so I had been thinking about retrying the gDiapers. If they seem to be working out well I’ll probably order the cloth inserts to try. (Bet those cloth inserts will work well inside the Thirsties covers as well!)
Of course, if they do work well I’ll probably have to order another color of the little gPants. They’ve come out with a several new colors.
So coming soon will be my second attempt at using gDiapers (using what I already have) and if they seem to be working well with Lana’s bigger body, I’ll be trying their version of cloth!
A couple quick Lana pics:

She doesn’t fit well into the littlest gDiapers yet, they have gaps in the legs and waist when she moves, and she is a very squirmy baby. (I didn’t try very hard to make them work right now since I had other options.) In the diaper pic she’s wearing a Thirsties cover with a gDiapers disposable insert in it. (We still have some of the Pampers swaddlers from the hospital, which are really nice. The disposable options have been convenient for while I rest up these past few days*, I can manage to tire myself out really quickly.)
It’s so nice that she’s here and out in the world now. She’s such a sweet little baby.
*full disclosure note: Sean has actually changed the majority of the diapers.
Edited to add: Pictures make her look more red and less gold than she really is. Her hair is strawberry blonde and her skin has a lot of gold to it as well: The one pediatrician said she looked like a peach.
Also, I realize that the fuchsia pink is NOT her color.
I’ve been spending a lot of time lately reading up on diapers. It would be so easy to just go the disposable route and forget it, but we’re hoping to do something both more cost-effective and more environmentally conscious. There are so many diapering options these days it’s hard to wrap your head around them all.
I was drawn to the idea of gDiapers for the versatility of having a different sort of disposable option. They’re very cute, and I like “new” concepts so I’m attracted to them. Basically it’s a cloth pant with a snap-in waterproof liner that has a disposable insert — more specifically, a flushable/compostable (or disposable) insert. They’re not much more cost-effective than disposable diapers on the surface (at 40 cents a change they cost more than some disposables). I know I’m not a serious coupon-clipper, so I expect for me 30 cents per diaper would be the cost of disposables (getting occasional orders in bulk from Amazon, for example, coupled with panicked trips to the local BP when we run out of diapers). [Luckily I can still play a similar game plan using gPants and cloth, since Amazon sells the gDiaper inserts.]
