Six Red-Haired Wives
I tried to limit this particular list to tv and movies (fictitious characters), and to characters who are married when we meet them (many love stories end in marriage, or the expectation of same, so this way there’s less chance of spoilers). So without further ado, and in no particular order, here are six red-haired wives:
Wilma Flintstone is the red-haired wife of Fred in The Flintstones cartoon. The stories center on the working class Fred and his family, and his friends and neighbors the Rubbles. (voiced by Jean Vander Pyl or Tress MacNeille)
Jane Jetson is the wife of George Jetson in The Jetsons. Like the Flintstones, The Jetsons is a Hanna-Barbera cartoon, but this one is set in space. They were clearly fond of animating red-haired wives for the main characters! (voiced by Penny Singleton or Lori Frazier)
Peggy Bundy is the wife of Al Bundy, the main character of Married…with Children. A humorous show about a working class man and his family and neighbors, not dissimilar in theme from the animated shows above, except that the family as a whole is more dysfunctional. (actress Katey Sagal)
Jessica Rabbit is the wife of Roger Rabbit from the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Drawn to be the deliberately over-the-top sexy femme fatale type, her famous line is “I’m not bad. I’m just drawn that way.” (voiced by Kathleen Turner or Amy Irving)
Lois Griffin is the wife of Peter Griffin from the cartoon series Family Guy – almost a modern and quirky version of the first two cartoon shows mentioned in this list except the family is more dysfunctional and there’s a touch of random insanity. (This cartoon comes from a very different place than the ones above, but since they’re together in this list I feel drawn to compare them.) (voiced by Alex Borstein)
I know, it may seem like a bit of a cheat just to get Futurama included, but Universe 1 Leela from the Futurama episode “The Farnsworth Parabox” is a redheaded wife. In the alternate universe we discover that the cross-color-palette Fry and Leela are happily married. (voiced by Katey Sagal)
